This exquisite pair of crystal glassware carries uncommonly refined vibes and stylised ancient Roman influences. Both glasses ring with a clear, pleasant tone that is characteristic to crystal glassware, bearing beautiful details such as the elegantly silhouetted stems and pressed satin animal head reliefs.
The Azure blue glass has a bowl that has a wide rim that gently tapers downwards into a rounded base, shaped similar to that of a Pousse Café glass. Supporting the bowl is the satined (frosted) pressed glass relief of the double rams head, the glass is finished with a 4-sided square stem.
The Amber orange glass also has a bowl with a wide rim, however, this bowl tapers sharply, forming a 'V' and shape that is classic to a Martini cocktail glass. The bowl is supported by a satined press relief of the double lion heads, the glass is finished with a faceted, staggered diamond stem.

This stunning set of Modernist pitcher jug and six cups is from the Sesi series and was designed by Erkkitapio Siiroinen for Finnish glassworks Riihimäen Lasi.
Siiroinen was inspired to create the Sesi series by his friend, which he subsequently named the series in honour of. Siiroinen spent two years experimenting to create the black glass and the Sesi series, which would eventually be launched by Riihimäen Lasi in 1976.
Because the concept of Sesi was so new and innovative at the time (it was very rare to design such a large series in black glass), the launch generated a great deal of interest and was widely noted in the press, the series quickly became popular.
The glass itself gives the appearance of black but is actually an exceptionally deep shade of Cobalt blue, the blue hue is revealed when under bright light. The rounded forms of the glasses and the jug show off its Modernist design influences and give a beautiful expression of the raw material.
CONDITION
Excellent, no chips, cracks or repairs for pitcher jug and all cups. Two of the six tumblers bear the original 'Riihimaen Lasi, Made in Finland' label, in use during the 1970s.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Riihimäen Lasi (1910 - 1990). Founded in 1910, Riihimäen Lasi became Finland’s biggest glass manufacturer from the 1920s until the 190s. Chief Designers included Helena Tynell (c. 1946), Nanny Still (c. 1949), and Tamara Aladin (c.1959). These designers pushed the boundaries using multiple glass-forming techniques, including mould-blowing, pressing, centrifugal-casting, and casing, as well as adding stunning decorative details by cutting, engraving, sandblasting and polishing. Sadly, the factory would eventually close in 1990.
Many of Siiroinen's glass series, including Sesi, are very popular among Finnish glass collectors. Siiroinen was known to be a rebellious young designer and it was this attitude that led to some of the most interesting and innovative glass series ever produced in the history of Finnish design.

The 'Kluk Kluk' carafe has become a well-recognised design for Kastrup and Holmegaard glass, it is said that it became known as the Kluk Kluk or 'Cluck Cluck' decanter due to the distinctive sound made when pouring. The quality of the glass is evident throughout the lithe yet sturdy form.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Holmegaard was founded in 1823 after Count Christian Danneskjold-Samsøe petitioned the Danish king for permission to build a glassworks. He died before permission was granted. However, when permission was finally received in 1825, his widow Countess Henriette Danneskjold-Samsøe pursued the project and began production. Much of Holmegaards early work was regarded as derivative and inconsequential, but between the 1930s and 1980s, it was transformed by the designs of Jacob E. Bang (1899-1965), Per Lütken (1916-98), and Bang's son, Michael (1944-2002). Today the company is known for its high-quality products of Danish design.
Jacob E Bang (1899 - 1965) is known as Denmark’s first industrial designer and the creator of functionalism in Danish glass. Graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1921 as an architect, he began his career Kay Fisker’s design studio.
Jacob E. Bang’s glass design, which was popular and virtuosic, achieved great recognition and popularity, and today many of his works have become style icons and collectables. He believed his designs should be beautiful, strong and practical.
Bang was one of the few Danish designers of the time and won several medals at world exhibitions; Barcelona in 1929, Brussels in 1935, Paris in 1937 and New York 1939. From 1957-65, he was the artistic director of Kastrup Glassworks.
