THE ITEM
This pair of delicately decorated work is Chinese Cloisonne enamelware, a technique that is understood to have been introduced during the 18th century.
Cloisonne or 'Cloisonné' are metalwork objects with decoration that is applied by creating separating sections using wire or thin metal. The sections are filled with different coloured enamels to create a visual image or pattern and the whole piece be fired multiple times to realise the colours.
The bodies for both pieces are made of brass with a counter (base) enamel of the traditional Azure blue. The decor is a rich cascade of stylised gold clouds pattern that is trimmed with the Ruyie (upside down cloverleaf with a dot) border at the rim and 'shoulders' of the vases. The central feature for one vase is a stem of red Cherry blossom and for the other vase, a stem of pink and red Peony.
CONDITION
Very Good. No dents or repairs. There is mild wear to the enamel on the back of one vase (Peony) that is commensurable with the age of the piece. Please refer to photos as they form part of the condition report.

Presenting a striking work of mid-century German Brutalist design, formed into an Etagere, or table shelf.
The form of this piece is an uncommon retelling of the popular Atomic design tiered plant tables created in Formica. The iconic characteristics of sharp and dramatically defined curves complimented by the triple threading carry echoes of great Modernist designers and sculptors such as Dame Barbara Hepworth.
The texture of the main structure is highly tactile with an effect reminiscent of indented metal created from the heating and striking of a hammer.
The stylised, eye-catching form piece makes this piece a rare find that can be displayed as a standalone piece or for functional use.

This excellent example of mid-century Modernist design is by Norwegian sculptor Gunnar Havstad (b.1901 - d. 1973) for his Pewter studio Havstad in Nesodden, Norway.
A design from the Machine age, Havstad brought to life the Modernist design principles of realising an honest expression of the function and natural material through the closely grooved circles to give a tactile décor.
A beautiful example of Scandinavian Modern design, this work is suitable for standalone display or lightly accented as a Ikebana vase.
CONDITION
Very Good. There is mild surface wear and a minor inversion measuring c. 2cm x c. 1cm that are commensurable with the age of the piece with the price reflecting the inversion. Please do refer to the photos as they form a part of the condition report. The underside of the vase is inscribed with 'Havstad'.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Gunnar Havstad (b.1901 - d. 1973) was a Norwegian sculptor, author and tinsmith who received his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm with Carl Milles, professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Havstad founded his namesake studio Havstad in 1928 in Nesodden, Norway. With just a dozen employees to create the designs, the factory went on to become the oldest pewter factory in Norway. Gunnar Havstad became known for having renewed the form expression in pewter and tin who was not afraid to mix pewter, tin with wood, brass and leather. Gunnar's son Sveinung Havstad took over the running of the company in the same workshop that was built in 1928.
