THE ITEM

This superbly crafted and charming set of Modernist figurines is the design of Walter Bosse (b. 1904 - d. 1979 Austrian ceramics artist and designer) for Karlsruher Majolika Ceramics manufactory. 

Each piece has been hand painted in the pale blue, Craquelure 'crackle' glaze that has been applied with great precision to reveal the touches of defining red clay.  

This set would make excellent collection additions for appreciators of Mid Century and Modernist design. 

A BIT OF HISTORY 

Karlsruher was founded by Hans Thomas in January 1901 after the grand duke of Baden, Friedrich I, gave consent for the construction of a workshop in the Hoffstrasse in Karlsruhe. Its full name is Majolika Manufaktur Karlsruhe. Karlsruhe has employed leading designers and artists to design their items and to this day, the company provides artists with studio space and commissions works.

Walter Bosse (b. 1904 - d. 1979) was an Austrian ceramics artist and designer. Bosse's works are highly collectable, found in many collections throughout the world and in numerous museums such as Kitzbühel, Scheibbs Ceramic Museum and the State Museum of Baden. Bosse's distinctive glazes are hard to beat in terms of precision and luminosity were created in accordance with secret recipes and remain unmatched to this day.

CONDITION

Excellent, no chips, cracks or scratches. There is light use wear that is predominantly on the underside of the base of each figurine and is commensurable with the age of the pieces - please refer to photos as part of the condition report. 

MEASUREMENTS
Bear Cub. Measures c. 3.5" / 8.9 cm tall (from tallest point to base ) x c. 2.4" / 6 cm wide (across widest point). 

Baby Elephant. Measures c. 1.3" / 3.4 cm tall (from tallest point to base ) x c. 1.9" / 4.7 cm wide (across widest point). 

Baby Rabbit. Measures c. 2.6" / 6.5 cm tall (from tallest point to base ) x c. 2" / 5 cm wide (across widest point).
