This exceptional work of Swedish Modernist is by Kjell Blomberg (b. 1931 - d. 1989) for Upsala Ekeby. Blomberg was a leading Swedish Swedish ceramicist, designer and artist, known for many series he designed at Upsala Ekeby and Gullaskruf glassworks.

This hand-thrown and hand-glazed work comes from Blomberg's popular Turbin series, designed in 1954. The series is characterised by the clean-lined, swelling forms and the deliciously tactile décor in the 'mint choc-chip ice cream' colour palette variation. The decor is an arrangement of gently curving sgraffito scores of unglazed Dark Chocolate earthenware revealed between the bands of gloss glaze in Powdered Mint. The combination of the silky smooth glaze bands and the unglazed elements present a striking and tactile contrast.

This particular piece is a rare miniature embodiment of the design and skill executed in the series. The form of this piece and of the series is undeniably Modernist in design, highlighting the seamless harmony of function, form, and the raw materials
