This expertly crafted work of Expressive 1970s studio pottery brings with it Modernist and Brutalist design.
The base of the vase is a firm square that has been carefully distorted to mildly twist and the rim finishing with two opposing crested corners. The cresting corners are lined on the inside of the vase with five differently sized 'ventricles', giving the piece an effect like that of stone with water-worn paths. The external decor is subtly suggestive with wave-like Sgraffito lines carved into the rim on two sides. The white clay has been glazed with a multi-coloured palette of gloss glazes which includes Milk white, Sandstone, Pale and Slate-Grey blue as well as hues of Cinnamon and Burnt Toffee brown.
This beautifully expressive piece would suit a room with Contemporary, Modernist or even Industrial themed decor.
Excellent, no unintentional marks to the vase sculpture, please refer to photos as they form part of the condition report. The underside of the vase bears the ceramist's initial of 'R'.
