THE ITEM
This sweetly adorable and hand-decorated figure is by celebrated Swedish ceramicist and designer Lisa Larson (b.1931 - ) by Gustavsberg for NK Sweden.
This charming piece is the 'Observant Otter' that was designed in 1980, the 6th of seven Nordic animals in the WWF Endangered Species series by Larson. This figure is one of 2,500 limited edition pieces.
The life-like pose and attentive expression makes this piece live up to its name, as does the beautiful applied glaze of browns, with hues including Hickory, Espresso to Light Walnut. Being hand-decorated, this particular piece bears hairline separation in the glaze above its right eye; this production imperfection, however, only adds to the character and rarity to the piece, making this otter appear as if it has a battle scar.
