This mid-century, hand-built and glazed studio pottery piece is of British Modernist design, with echoes reminiscent of Antoni Gaudi's organic style and precept of never using a straight line in his design.
Beautifully sculptural and seemingly simple, this piece would have required significant technique to achieve the deliciously smooth curves, even as the piece dips into the central hollow. The central chamber not only opens as a band across the top but also at the base of the inner hollow, this allows any flora to thread all the way through and for the piece to still hold a small amount of water.
The glaze décor is a base of silky and semi-matte Milk white, upon which is a glorious drip glaze of glossy fusing of multicolour. The multicolour palette includes Candied Powder pink, Pale Butterscotch yellow, Soft lilacs, dashes of Violet and Cherry; all of which are edged in green and blue tones of Turquoise, Teal, Apple and Emerald.
CONDITION
Excellent. No cracks or repairs. Mentioned for completeness; there is mild crazing and light wear on the underside of the base that is commensurate with the age of the piece. Please see photographs as they form part of the condition report.
