THE ITEM
This exceptional set of Atomic Space-Age pieces was designed by Luigi Colani in 1973 and was produced by the Melitta-Porcelain Factory Friesland, Germany in Ceracron stoneware. Ceracron stoneware is trademarked and characterised by its hardness as well as heat resistance, the material has a higher density than 'normal' earthenware.
The form of the teapot is a beautiful blend of softly curved geometry, the handle also unusually functions as a double-ended spout for drink pouring. The vessel can be tilted on its stand to pour from either side and drinks can be kept warm with use of the tealight warmer in the space beneath. The stand is embossed with Luigi Colani's signature.
The teacups mimic the teapot with its double handles and lightly arched center, this raised arch is further mimicked in the saucers. Overall, a stunning collectors set that is chic, retro and fully functional to add style to a contemporary, atomic space-age, retro or even industrial decor themed room.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Luigi Colani (born Lutz Colani 2 August 1928), is a German industrial designer. His long career began in the 1950s when he designed cars for companies such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Volkswagen, and BMW. In the 1960s, he began designing furniture, and as of the 1970s, he expanded in numerous areas. A striking grand piano created by Colani is manufactured and sold by the Schimmel piano company.
His unconventional designs have made him famous, not only in design circles but also to the general public. He has received numerous design awards, although his unconventional approach has left him largely an outsider from the mainstream of industrial design.
