THE ITEM
This very tactile and sculpted work of studio pottery is by German ceramists Maria & Schott for their Töpferei Schott Studio Pottery in Petershagen.
From the form to the glaze, the sophisticated technique, artistic skill and level of detail in this piece is stunning. The stylised half-sphere form has been gently gathered at two opposing points at the rim opening, this seemingly small feature creates beautifully organic and folds, like the unfurling of a flower in bloom. Inbetween the draped sides are the exquisitely detailed reliefs of anemone-like tendrils in a Capuccino brown. The base drip glaze is a semi-matte, pale cream with accents of Espresso, Mocha and Umber brown, Stone beige and tones of muted Sage green matte and gloss glaze blended together into the final Earthtoned decor.
CONDITION
Excellent. No chips, cracks, scratches or repairs. There is mild use wear, most evident in light movement marks on the underside of the base and which are commensurate with age.
