This stunning work of mid-century Modern design was created by the elusive Italian studio pottery Nuovo Rinascimento.
The Sgraffito decor and use of the Persiano blue and Golden brown gloss glazes reflect the popular and prominent Italian studio pottery design of the time. One of the most notable was the 'Rimini' series produced by Italian studio pottery Bitossi, the inspiration for the use of the Persiano blue is said to be taken from the Adriatic sea, off the coast of Rimini in Italy.
This piece is very tactile and has a great blend of glossy smooth glaze interspersed with coarse grit in the clay as well as that of which comes from the Sgraffito carved designs. The palette features a central band of the striking Persiano blue, which lightly merges with the Golden brown. Further finishing accents of the blue has created the subtle tones of verdant green.
CONDITION
Good. There are two minor flakes to the glaze located at one top and one bottom corner and there is gentle crazing all over that is commensurate with the age of the piece. Mentioned for completeness: there are a few wear spots to the coarser grit of the glaze. Please do refer to photos as they form part of the condition report. The underside of the base is marked 'B/3 ITALY'.
