THE ITEM
Presenting a fantastic piece of Dutch Mid Century Modern design ceramic in the form of a UFO pendant lamp, created during the Eames, Panton era. This particular design is rare enough to encounter, let alone in such excellent condition as well as size (c. 12" / 30 cm in diameter and with a height of c. 8.3" / 21 cm).
The volcanic lava is wonderfully tactile; thickly applied white semi-gloss glaze is interspersed with a dark chocolate brown. The lava sits as two bands, one at the base of the lamp and one at the 'shoulders' of the lamp, at the base of the milky-cocoa gloss glaze.
The semi-matte deep pumpkin orange glaze section has a balanced number of holes to let the light through and even without the light on, its a beautiful piece of work of ceramic art in itself.
A big plus is that the lamp is fitted with a Rolly, the Rolly Brevettato wiring support was designed for electrical chandeliers created by Italian company Elettrolampart Componenti. This particular Rolly can support weights of up to 4kg and allows the lamp to extend up to a length of c. 125 cm / 49" - should the room or space have a particularly high ceiling.
This excellent piece would grace any space with Mid Century, Modernist or Contemporary design inspired decor.
CONDITION
Excellent, with no chips, cracks or scratches to the body of the ceramic. There is light wear to black metal cap at the top of the lamp and light rust in the Rolly key, both signs of wear which is commensurable with age of the piece, please see photos as part of the condition report.
