This eye-catching statement piece is a collaborative effort, designed by Danish designer Holm Sørensen, decorated by Svend Aage Jensen and produced by Søholm Stentøj from 1956. The form of this piece is softly geometric, with rounded angles which is characteristic to Holm-Sørensen's (b.1913 - d. 2004) De Stijl and Bauhaus influenced design style during the 1950s. The decor is a satin black glaze, upon which is painted the geometric gloss yellow, white and blue decor. The combination of the form and decor makes this piece visually very Modernist and the size adds great overall presence.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen (b. 1913 – d. 2004) was a Danish designer who is best known for his wide collection of lighting designs, although he also designed furniture and household décor items. He started his design career in the 1950s, during which he reflected the mid-century modern style, with clear influences from the De Stijl and Bauhaus movements. From the 1960s onwards, Holm Sørensen’s style changed utterly. His designs diverged from colourful, Modernist geometricism to a rawer, Brutalist style.

Svend Aage Jensen (b. 1918 - ) was Danish designer and ceramist, and an expert in glazes. He is mainly known for his designs for Søholm Stentøj, where he worked from the age of 26, from 1944 until 1980. At Soholm, Jensen very quickly demonstrated talent for developing glazes, including the popular EJ64 'The Blue Series' glaze, 'The Series' and the 'Burgundia' series.
