THE ITEM
This piece is a beautifully handmade and decorated stoneware or ('stentoj' in Danish) vase by Noomi Backhausen. Noomi’s designs were always bold and expressive, but also joyful and occasionally playful, this is evident in this piece with the well defined cobalt and plum abstract floral design.
A BIT OF HISTORY
Noomi Backhausen Dec 1938 – May 2011 , she worked at Soholm between 1966 to 1990. She is probably best known for the work whilst with Soholm.
The most common Soholm designs by Noomi are from the Cactus Series, (decor by Noomi, forms by Paul Brandborg) the Erika Series (decor Noomi, forms Paul Brandborg) series, and of course Noomi’s plethora of charming designs for stoneware wall plaques which Soholm Pottery became very well known for. Later in life Noomi worked In her own studio on Bornholm, where she produced huge ceramic table tops.
CONDITION
Excellent, use wear commensurate with age - no scratches, cracks or chips.
